Billy Comstock - Keyboards, Sax & Vocals

Music has always been a big part of my life. Growing up in Rutland, Vermont, I was fortunate to be involved in academics, athletics and music, eventually earning a football scholarship to the University of Vermont while studying social welfare and music performance.

In 1971, I started a 9-piece horn band called Satin & Steel. The saxophone quickly became my musical home, although over the years I've enjoyed playing a variety of instruments, performing with different bands and spending time writing original music. Through it all, I've simply tried to bring energy, heart and authenticity to every performance.

When I wasn't performing, I spent many rewarding years teaching performing arts in the Rutland school system. Helping young musicians and performers discover their own talents was every bit as meaningful to me as being on stage.

For me, music has never just been about performing. It's about bringing people together, sharing experiences, creating memories and helping the next generation find their own voice. I'm grateful that music continues to be such an important part of my life and I'm honored to share it with others.

Art Rothafel - Guitar & Vocals

In 1972, while attending Berklee College of Music in Boston, I received a call that would shape much of my musical journey — an invitation to join Billy's band, Satin & Steel.

For the next several years, I found myself traveling between classes in Boston and weekend gigs across New England.

More than once, that journey involved hitchhiking with a guitar in hand and just enough confidence to believe I'd make it to the next show on time.

As the band continued to grow, I was fortunate to work alongside some incredibly talented musicians. The band's ambitious arrangements and diverse repertoire were a perfect fit for my curiosity as a guitarist. I've never been content to simply learn the notes. I enjoy digging into the harmony, composition and musical architecture that make a song come alive.

Over the years, that curiosity led me down a variety of creative paths. I had the opportunity to record original music at A&M Records and later built a career on the business side of creativity through marketing, branding and entrepreneurship.

Through every chapter, music remained the constant. Whether writing songs, recording in the studio, collaborating with other musicians or performing live, I've always been drawn to the creative process and the connections that music creates.

Today, it's especially meaningful to share the stage with Billy once again. While a lot has changed since those early days, the joy of making music together feels exactly the same.

Beginnings...

Some musical partnerships are built in studios.  Some are forged on stage.  And some begin in small towns, long before anyone realizes how far the music will travel.

Billy and I share a story that spans decades — a story rooted in friendship, musicianship and the simple joy of live performance.

In the early 1970s, we played in a band that Billy founded, called Satin & Steel.

It was becoming something special.  What started as a local band quickly evolved into a tight, horn-driven touring band playing rock, soul, R&B and funk throughout New England, New York and the entire Northeast.

At the time, Billy and I were just two of nine very talented musicians.   While we both love music, we have very different personalities, ended-up taking different paths, but continued to share the same musical instinct.

Billy has always been the heart and soul of the band.  He is full of creative energy.

I've always been more of the "edge" -- like a hall monitor who tracked everything happening within the band and its music.

Together with this combination, we helped shape a group that didn’t just play songs — it connected with people.

Full Circle

Life took Billy and me down different roads — education, business, family, and creative ventures — but the connection never disappeared. Our current band, "Billy & Art" is about coming full circle: reconnecting through music, friendship and shared history.

While it may seem like nostalgia... it’s really about continuity.

We are two seasoned musicians bringing decades of experience, stories and soul into every performance — playing our music for audiences who value connection, musicianship and heart.
